Please read these Terms of Service ("Terms") carefully before using Sequoia. By accessing or using Sequoia, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
Sequoia is a study productivity web application that connects to the Canvas Learning Management System (Canvas LMS), prioritizes your assignments by grade weight, and rewards consistent studying through an XP and virtual tree system. Sequoia is provided by an independent operator ("we," "us," or "our") and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or partnered with Instructure (the maker of Canvas) or any educational institution.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Sequoia. If you are under 18, you represent that you have your parent or guardian's permission to use the service. By using Sequoia, you represent that you meet these eligibility requirements.
To purchase a paid subscription, you must be at least 18 years old or have parental consent and a valid payment method.
You may sign in via Google or create an account with an email address and password. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at support@getsequoia.app if you suspect unauthorized access.
You may not create accounts for others, use another person's account, or share your account credentials.
Sequoia uses a personal Canvas API access token that you generate and provide. By connecting Canvas, you confirm:
Free plan: Sequoia offers a free tier with limited features at no cost.
Premium plan: A paid subscription unlocks additional features including AI scheduling, full study mode, and unlimited cosmetics. Subscription pricing is displayed in the app at the time of purchase.

Sequoia is a tool to help you organize and prioritize your existing coursework. It does not write, generate, or submit academic work on your behalf. You are solely responsible for ensuring your use of Sequoia complies with your institution's academic integrity policies.
Sequoia does not guarantee any academic outcomes, grade improvements, or GPA changes. The priority ranking, grade forecasts, and AI suggestions are informational tools — not academic advice. Always verify information with your instructors and institution.
All content, design, code, graphics, and branding within Sequoia — including the tree artwork, XP system, and brand identity — are owned by or licensed to us. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Sequoia for personal, non-commercial study purposes.
You retain ownership of any data you input (such as manual assignments or session notes). By using Sequoia, you grant us a limited license to store and display that content to provide the service.
SEQUOIA IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT YOUR DATA WILL NOT BE LOST.
We make reasonable efforts to keep Canvas data current, but we cannot guarantee that assignment data, due dates, or grade information displayed in Sequoia matches your institution's Canvas system at all times. Always check Canvas directly for critical academic deadlines.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOST GRADES, MISSED ASSIGNMENTS, OR ACADEMIC PENALTIES, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE SEQUOIA, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIMS ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF SEQUOIA SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM OR (B) $10 USD.
We may suspend or terminate your account at any time if you violate these Terms. You may delete your account at any time by contacting us at support@getsequoia.app.
Upon termination, your right to use Sequoia ceases immediately. If you have an active paid subscription, it will not be automatically refunded unless required by law. Sections 9, 10, 11, and 13 survive termination.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in California, and you consent to personal jurisdiction in those courts.
We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects changes. We will provide reasonable notice of material changes (such as an in-app notice or email). Continued use of Sequoia after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance.
